Governor-General Departs the United Kingdom

Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes at Buckingham Palace 3 November 2010

On Sunday, 14 November 2010, Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Foulkes departed London to return to The Bahamas. Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes had a very busy two week stay in the United Kingdom. Having arrived on 30 October, they attended the 11am Service at the Grosvenor Chapel in London on 31 October 2010, along with High Commissioner Mr. Paul Farquharson and Mrs Sharon Farquharson, and a group of Bahamian students.

On Wednesday, 3 November 2010,   Sir Arthur was invested by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as "Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St George" (GCMG).  Later that evening Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes were the guests of honour at a reception hosted by the High Commissioner and Mrs Farquharson at Bahamas House.

On Tuesday, 9 November 2010, Lady Foulkes was the guest of honour at a Tea hosted by Mrs. Sharon Farquharson at the Residence of the High Commissioner.  Later that evening Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes were hosted to a reception at the Caledonian Club by Mr. Richard Moir, Chairman of the London-based "Friends of The Bahamas Association", of which Sir Arthur was a founding patron during his tenure as High Commissioner in the United Kingdom (9 November 1992 - 14 June 1999). The Association was launched on 30 July 1998.  It is a UK- registered company limited by guarantee, and aims to promote, encourage and facilitate cultural, educational and commercial exchanges between the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes attended events organised by the Bahamas Tourist Office and the Bahamas Maritime Authority while in London, including a visit to the "World Travel Market" on 8 November 2010, and they also travelled to Liverpool on 11 November 2010 to visit the Caribbean Pavilion at the Liverpool Biennial 2010.
